I can't believe this is the first time I've posted in almost a month. I had final exams, finished up my spring internship and then came down with a nasty flu last week so I haven't had a lot of energy lately. Thankfully, I'm back to my old self, scouring Etsy for the most fashionable pieces.

This weeks seller is happily named, Up In The Air Somewhere, and has a great assortment of pretty ceramics that will brighten up any space. Naturally, I went straight for the chevron stripe, my favorite print for the last few months.

Even though we haven't reached Thanksgiving yet, New York has been feeling especially chilly. And yes, I am completely referring to the rouge snowstorm we had last weekend! Once I felt the snow hit my face again, I cringed at the thought of winter weather. However, until we reach sub zero tempurtures, I'm going to try and enjoy the chilly weather and layer up with chunky knit sweaters, bow blouses and preppy collared shirts. Ah, living the life.

Fall has arrived in the city and today marked the first day wear I really noticed people leaving their bright colors behind and opting for New York City's cold-weather uniform of head-to-toe black. I'm not going to deny it, I too adopt that uniform when the sky is that certain shade of grey and I feel completely uninspired with the contents of my closet. Speaking of inspiration, I had an obsession with neon this summer that I am happily carrying over to fall with the help of Etsy seller, Spike the Punch. I love these necklaces because they pack a lot o' punch (pun intended), with out breaking the bank. I'm planning on using them to dress up basic tees and chunky-knit sweaters--my go-to tops for fall. If you've been following my blog for the past few weeks than you know that I have been redecorating my apartment this summer. I know, I know, you've heard it a thousand times, but my new furniture, er should I say old furniture that a family friend refurnished is coming next week and pictures will be posted soon!

I've really been in love with chevron lately. The print has such a classic look to it and I love the geometric qualities. I bought a few pillow cases for my couch from Sew Panache and they really gave my living space a much needed pick me up. I am so in love with my pillow cases that I went searching for more and found Etsy seller Jill Rosewald. She has a great assortment of printed housewares and I truly love every piece!

No, I haven't been on a cruise for two weeks, (oh, man!) but I have been crazy busy since I've been back. Between starting the fall semester, returning to Tory Burch for an internship, living through an earth quake and oh yea, a hurricane (hope you are all safe!). I think you may be able to understand my lack of posting.

Enough on that subject though! I wanted to share some of my photos from my amazing vacation with you. We went on a cruise to Florida and the Bahamas. If you've ever been on a cruise then you'll understand why my vacation consisted of an unlimited amount of delicious food, wonderfully girly drinks by the pool and beach while in port, new bathing suits, and of course, the absolute best time with my amazing family. I'm going to let my nerd flag fly here, but if you've never brought Yahtzee on a vacation, you haven't lived.

No, really, I'm going to be on a boat for a week. By boat I mean ship and by ship I mean a cruise. Tomorrow I set sail out of New York to the Bahama's! I literally cannot contain my excitement. I haven't been on a vacation in years. Years, I say! So, naturally I will be MIA from the blogosphere until next week. Upon my return expect a few blog posts dedicated to what sure is to be a great vacation. Anyways, I had so much fun packing this morning, blasting music, trying on sun dresses and coordinating bathing suits with cover-ups. Cheers to white sand, clear water, and a never ending supply of rum punch.

A few weekends ago I was lucky enough to make it home for the annual Hamilton Fest in Baltimore. It was great to catch up with family and friends many of whom planned the entire festival(!) and got to eat great Maryland food. Not to mention the emerging craft scene in Baltimore. I decided that my summer project was going to be an apartment redecoration so I have been slowly making changes over the past few months. I picked up a new shower curtain and couch cover which gave our apartment an instant pick-me-up. A family friend is refurnishing some of my parents and grandparents furniture including an adorable arm chair that my Grandma paid 75 cents for! Of course, I took to Etsy for new art prints, tiny nik-naks and the coolest chevron striped pillow cases! The only ~~room~~ small area I have yet touched is my kitchen... Until I found Etsy seller Jadite Kate.

Interning at Teen Vogue can be pretty intimidating clothing wise. Don't, get me wrong, it's totally not a "Devil Wear's Prada" atmosphere, but when you walk through the hallways of the Conde' Nast building it's like a daily fashion show--which I love. As a student and intern living in New York City I have a limited budget so I am always looking for simple ways to update my wardrobe. My mom crocheted me a cute collar, I live for Zara sales and I frequent flea market jewelry stands. I look for classic pieces that pack a punch! So, I was thrilled when I discovered how many Etsy shops sell shoe clips. Each clip adds the perfect dash of glitter to an outfit a` la Kate Spade. The name seems taboo-- shoe clip, shoe clip, shoe clip, but I found the perfect one! Er, many.

I feel like my style has really changed and solidified over the past few months. I once said that my style was like Audrey Hepburn with a bit a "dirt" rubbed in. Honestly what on Earth was I thinking when I made that comment-- Audrey and "dirt" never belong in the same sentence. Please forgive me and embrace my newfound style.

My personal style now is a combination of Audrey Hepurn, (obviously) Elle Fanning, and anything Mui Mui all wrapped up in a green and gold Kate Spade box. I have fallen in love with polka-dots, bright girly patterns and anything with a Peter Pan collar. Which is why I was so happy when I found Etsy seller Lana Stepul, a mother and daughter design team based out of New York. My favorite pieces are their dresses with a high neck and low back. Tres chic.

The heat in New York has been unbearable lately. It's that time of the summer when all that I can manage to wear is loose skirts, light cotton and as many sun dresses as I can fit into my limited NYC closet space. I usually always like to wear three piece outfits--Like a tank, skirt and cute cardigan or scarf to finish it off. But in this heat I might melt so I have been wearing dainty, light-weight accessories as my third piece. Don't get me wrong I always accessorize, but these pieces add a polished finish that complete the look without giving me the risk of heat stroke!

I really do want to say that I saw it while it happened, I was too young to remember when Princess Diana was married. Of course, I'm most interested in seeing her dress. LIM College Fashion Show.

Last week my school put on its annual fashion show produced completely by students (No lie, even the models were my classmates!). The fashion show has been a yearly tradition at LIM since the year it opened in 1939. This years show was the biggest yet with nearly 1200 in attendance. A few of my very best friends were involved and I can't tell them enough how impressed I was by the show!

I had a fantastic time watching the show, got a delicious swag bag filled with Godiva chocolates and spent some much needed time with my friends. Here are a few pictures I snapped through out the night. Enjoy!

Perhaps it's because despite attending fashion schools for the last three years I have absolutely no talent in sketching models in clothing. The New York weather god's have been teasing us for the last few weeks. Just when we thought winter was over it snows and rains for three days straight....Sigh. Luckily, I know Spring will be here soon enough and I finally put away my drab colorless winter wardrobe (that I am totally sick of) and trade it for a colorful, flowery, wonderful Spring wardrobe. I Can't wait to frolic (yes I am that desperate for Spring that I used the word frolic) through Central Park in my girly dresses and dare I say open-toe shoes! I got an iPad in November and have already bought 3 cases for it. Yes, I know it seems ridiculous but they all have different special features. Oh, and they're all black (no surprise there). My biggest complaint about all of them is that they are all so big. Think about it, you buy an iPad because it's so thin and sleek, you cherish its every flick and quickly fall in love so you're bundle it up in three inches of leather. Totally disappointing to realize your iPad needs to go on a diet and shed some inches. So, of course, I ventured onto Etsy (where else?) and found the best little iPad case shop ever! Here are my favorite of the bunch. Which one do you like best? Please help me pick a new case so my iPad can be restored to its former modelesque physique.

I got surgery to repair a deviated septum and some other sinus wonders on Monday so I've been feeling a little too groggy to write in complete sentences for the blog. But, my tiresome recovery time has lead me to glue my computer to my lap and help me to "heart" at least thirty new shops on Etsy. No joke, my favorites list is over three thousand... Today, I spent some great time with my mother in our local knitting store, which could easily be considered her second home. She is a wonderfully talented knitter, and the maker of some of my absolute favorite pieces in my wardrobe including leg warmers, scarves and a cross bones sweater for my dog Bear of course. Although she knits every row with love, sometimes it's hard not to stray to other designers. But, hey, that's what Etsy's for right?

It's been a while since I have posted an Etsy Model of the Week, which is strange because it is one of my favorite things. I guess I can be picky when it comes to who I choose... Looks aren't a huge factor, it's more the setting, props, clothes, accessories and over photograph which makes me stop and say wow! I found this weeks post via the Style Me Etsy facebook page. It's been absolutely freezing in New York and even though I know colder weather has yet to come, I 'm already ready for Spring. These pictures gave me something to look forward too. Not to mention the clothes are stunning, the background is sunny and green, and anything featuring a big red balloon makes my list.

Since I've moved to New York City I've had to get used to much smaller closets, which mean all of my clothes need to be functional and multi purposed. I try to stay away from bold prints, or prints in general for that matter, and my signature black, grey and white palette has grown even more. I finally made it home to Maryland this weekend for the first time since I moved to New York. Not, only was it the first time I left the state since August, it was the first time I've left Manhattan. Needless to say it was a pleasant culture shock back into quiet American suburbia. I spent time with family, visited the pumpkin patch and tasted the best Butter Brickle ice cream I've ever had! My life has been completely amazing but a little hectic (in a good way) since the last time I posted. Between then and now, I have started school, began my internship at Teen Vogue, and attended my first ever New York Fashion Week (I died). Needless to say, I have been busy and my poor blog has taken the back seat. But, worry not, I am going to devote more love and attention to you, my dear readers. I haven't written too much about my new life and neighborhood in New York, so I thought I would show you some of what I've been up to. Enjoy!

Every year once it hits September 1, summer is officially over to me. I know technically there are a few more weeks of the season, but not for me. I started school last week; I start my internship next week. Believe me I'm not complaining, I love my school and my internship is at Teen Vogue, so it will be AMAZING! Even though this heat is unbearable, I know it's only a matter of time until the leaves start changing colors and the temperature cools down. I am so looking forward to this fall. It will be my first one in two years, since there were no real seasons in San Diego. I plan on wearing tons of rose pink, gold and camel. Not to mention the few blazers and faux fur vests I’ve acquired. Riordan Raoche’s Etsy shop is everything I want and more in my fall wardrobe. These girls are stunning! Hello makeover! This summer has been full of life changes for me, from graduating school, leaving the sunny weather in California, to move to New York and getting bangs (very scary). So, I decided that since this blog is such a big part of my life it needed a change too! I hope you enjoy the new look as much as I do!

Anyways, living out of a suitcase the past few weeks has made me realize the lack of color I have in my wardrobe. I have clear obsession with all things white, black, navy and shades of grey. At first I questioned my sanity (joking), but then I realized that's just who I am. Obviously these colors make me happy, and it makes the ability to mix and match my wardrobe so much easier. So I am pleased with my slightly colorless wardrobe. I have featured lamixx several times for their flattering silhouettes and muted colors. Every time I visit the shop, I find something new to "heart".

This is no easy task, unfortunately we had 2 apartments fall through, but we are still anxiously waiting to here back about a wonderfully charming apartment on the Upper East Side. Well, I am officially no longer a California resident! Over the last week we have packing our tiny apartment into 20 moving boxes, drove our dog to L.A to fly on Pet Airlines, and welcomed my parents to San Diego for the last time. Yesterday, we finally left. R flew back to Maryland, while my parents and I decided to drive back.

Yesterday we drove about 400 beautiful miles, literally stunning scenery. We drove through mountains, huge rock piles, sand dunes and plateaus, and witnessed the most colorful sunset over Arizona.

So, Hello from Tucson. I am sitting on the floor of my Tucson hotel room, with my trusty camera and USB cord. This week, I'll hope you'll enjoy my posts as I drive cross country!

I found this great recipe in Yoga Journal Magazine a few months back and it has quickly become a weeknight staple in my life. It's super easy, and yummy. Believe me just because I am a fashionista does not make me a domestic diva. So.... If I can do it, you can!

Ingredients:

2 cups chopped onions

2 garlic cloves, minced or pressed

1/2 cup of water

1 tablespoon ground cumin

1 tablespoon ground coriander

1 cup red salsa

2 bell peppers, any color, chopped

3 cups cooked black beans

3 cups blanched, peel tomatoes

2 cups corn kernels

Optional: Salt, Hot sauce, cilantro

1) In a soup pot, cook the onions and garlic in the water over a high heat, stirring frequently, for about 5 minutes. Add the cumin and coriander and stir over a high heat for a minute. Stir in the salsa and bell peppers, lower the heat, cover, and simmer for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

2) Add the black beans and tomatoes; simmer for 10 minutes. Use a wooden spoon to break up the tomatoes. Add the corn and continue to cook for 10 more minutes. Add salt and hot sauce to taste. Stir in cilantro if desired.

Try it out! Let me know how it goes

I'm now in my last quarter at FIDM and I can't help but be reminded of all the wonderful memories I have gathered over the last 2 years. I was a total slacker in high school, and I completely transformed when I got to FIDM. This past quarter I was lucky enough to take an extra class called Fashion Styling and Coordination. I drove up to LA every Saturday for 6 weeks and took this 6 hour class, the traveling was a total bummer, but the class was my favorite yet. The theme of our final project was the "Maddest Hatter" and we were instructed to create a headpiece, that was our only direction. Creative freedom can allow you to accomplish some pretty cool things. Here are some shots of my headpiece and the model I styled.
